Swedish state radio program coordinator, Kerstin Brunnberg, said of the matter: "Turks have been living in Sweden for some 40 years now. By this time, they should have learned Swedish. If they haven't, that is their own problem."

There has also been a decision made to increase Kurdish language broadcasts on Swedish state radio following the cessation of Turkish broadcasts on January 15, 2006. The seeming face off between Kurdish and Turkish language program over the Swedish state radio airwaves has upset members of Sweden's Turkish community.

While space given in the radio programming to Kurdish language broadcasts was accepted without problem, the decision to take the Turkish language broadcasts off air is being seen as a politically motivated move. The Turkish Federation in Sweden along with many other Turkish community organizations have organized a signature campaign to get the Turkish language broadcasts back on air.

Honorary president of Mesopotamia TV

In an interestingly related twist, Denmark's former prime minister Anker Jorgensen is the honorary president of PKK supported "Mesopotamia TV," which broadcasts freely from Denmark.
