Pro-Kurdish protests turn violent
Pro-Kurdish protests became violent on Sunday in Istanbul, when police tried to disperse crowds with truncheons and tear gas. Protestors in support of jailed leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party Abdullah Ocalan demonstrated in and around Istanbul after not being allowed to attend a rally planned in Bursa. After the violence broke out, protestors hurled stones at a bank in Sisli, and at a police station in Beyoglu while a bus was set on fire in the Gazi neighborhood. |

Turkey to become a strategic oil corridor Speaking at the 31st Ambrosetti Forum held in Italy on Friday, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey's energy strategy was clear: to create a corridor between countries with rich energy sources and those who consume it. Turkey intends to make use of its geostrategic position in the global oil market. The Ceyhan terminal looks set to become a major centre for energy distribution as tankers can load from there and transport oil easily to both the West and East. |

A gang of wig-wearing thieves arrested A gang of four thieves, who wore wigs as a disguise, were arrested while breaking into a house in Ordu. The thieves, two of which were women are believed to have broken into 59 houses within one month. The two male suspects have been identified as Recai C, 34 years old and Hasbi A, 32 years old and female suspects Hidayet C, 28, and Sevgi, 26, years were caught while forcing the door to a house open. |

Gravel on the road takes another victim
The owner of an advertising agency based in Antalya, Mehmet Macit , 34, has been killed and his girlfriend Sinem Tekin, 22, injured in a deadly car accident due to bad road conditions. The couple, who were driving to the holiday village of Kemer on the Mediterranean coast were looking forward to spending a holiday together. the accident occurred when Macit lost control of the car due to gravel on the road. The car spun out of control and he was thrown out through the window. Macit's girlfriend Tekin suffered injuries but is said to be in a stable condition. |

Olive stones belonging to Neolithik period discovered An important discovery from the Neolithik period has been made by a team of archeologists while digging in the ancient town of Yumuktepe, Mersin. Olive pips that date back 5800 years were discovered as a Neolithink kitchen was found by using a new type of digging method, said Professor Isabel Caneva. "It is the first time anyone has ever used such a method to dig, " added Prof. Caneva. |

Turkey asks Denmark to file criminal charges against Danish TV station Turkey has requested Denmark to file criminal charges against Roj TV – a channel that is accused of using propaganda to raise support for the separatist movement of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), said spokesman Namik Tan on Friday. "After Turkey received some tip offs that the broadcasting organs of the terrorist organization would try to provide a broadcasting license in Denmark, the Turkish Embassy in Copenhagen launched initiatives at the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in February 2004," said Tan. |
