Georgia seeks to strengthen security ties with Turkey

Georgia is seeking more cooperation with Turkey in terms of reaching higher levels of security in the face of terrorism, reported Anatolian News Agency on Thursday. Secretary General of National Security Council of Georgia Gela Bejuashvili said, "Georgia acted together with countries like the US, Britain and Turkey to fight terrorism which is an important issue as regards Georgia's security."

Noting that Georgia has prepared a new state security document to fight terrorism, Bejuashvili added, "Turkey, Ukraine, and the US were considered as the most important strategic partners in that respect."

"We held important meetings with Turkish officials in Ankara three months ago and this lead to the building of a new security understanding." Bejuashvili said.

Bejuashvili also referred to Turkey's support to Georgia's NATO membership process, and cooperation in military training and formation of Georgian special forces.

On the subject of the safety of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum (BTE) energy lines, Bejuashvili said that the security measures adopted by Georgia to protect the energy lines would be assessed in details in a meeting to be held in Ankara on Sept. 5th.
