In a statement to the press Bakirhan said, "The DEHAP statement contained words similar to ones used by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Diyarbakır. The Kurdish problem can be solved neither through violence nor by ignoring it. Those who investigate us should also investigate the prime minister. If some people are trying to send a message to the government through us, I would like to say it is not necessary."
Kelkit accused the eight in question of promoting terrorism by using the term "sayin".
Bakirhan added that family traditions taught them not to distinguish between people and to respect all. Former Prime Minister Adnan Menderes was hung. We also refer to him as 'sayın.' Turkey's problems will not be resolved by whether we call someone 'sayın' or not.
DEHAP last week announced its dissolution and merger with former Democracy Party (DEP) deputy Leyla Zana's Democratic Society Movement (DTH).
