Bomb attack in Mersin An explosive-loaded car went off outside a police guest house in Mersin on Friday. The driver of the car was heavily injured while the person in the passenger seat was killed. The car exploded at around 10:00 p.m. in Adnan Menderes Square, which was heavily crowded at the time. Police forces executive Süleyman Ekizer has announced that "the people in the car were in preparation of an attack, with the person sitting in the passenger seat carrying the explosives." |

Bin Laden's aide working in Ankara Former CIA agent Vince Cannistraro has informed the Associated Press news agency that one of Osama Bin Laden's aides is currently working for the Iraqi embassy in Ankara. Tarik A. Hamid, a US citizen, is believed to have been involved in the Kenya and Tanzania bombings carried out by Al-Qaida. Born in Iraq, Hamdi is currently serving in the Iraqi embassy in Ankara. It is understood that he has been in contact with Bin Laden via e-mail, as the "American connection" of the terrorist organisation. |

Yesterday in Izmir, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with the families of soldiers killed in the line of duty, reading poetry to them the day before his trip to Diyarbakir, in Turkey's southeast. The PM spoke with the families of soldiers, assuring them that their sons walked hand in hand with the prophets, and read lines from Mehmet Akif Ersoy's poem "The Fallen Heroes of Gallipoli" to them. |

He was at the execution of the Turkish chauffer in Iraq
A Syrian Al Qaeda member accused of involvement in the Istanbul bomb blasts of two years ago has also said that he was present at the video taped execution of a Turkish chauffeur in Iraq. Luai Sakra, currently being held at the Besiktas Court in Istanbul, was identified in different videotapes of Turkish chauffeurs whose throats were cut by Islamic militants in Iraq over the past year. |

Israel lifts recent Antalya warning Israel has decided to lift a warning to its citizens not to visit the Turkish resort sites of Alanya and Kemer in the region of Antalya. An annoucement coming from the Israeli Anti Terrorism Center confirmed that as a result of the work of the Turkish security forces, Israel would be lifting the warning. The center had warned Israeli citizens three days beforehand that they should not travel to the stated regions due to the danger of terrorism. |
