Bin Laden's aide working in Ankara

Former CIA agent Vince Cannistraro has informed the Associated Press news agency that one of Osama Bin Laden's aides is currently working for the Iraqi embassy in Ankara. Tarik A. Hamid, a US citizen, is believed to have been involved in the Kenya and Tanzania bombings carried out by Al-Qaida. Born in Iraq, Hamdi is currently serving in the Iraqi embassy in Ankara. It is understood that he has been in contact with Bin Laden via e-mail, as the "American connection" of the terrorist organisation.

Two members of US police forces, who did not want to be named, confirmed that they are in the know as to Hamdi's whereabouts. US authorities have refused to comment on the matter, although US weekly Newsweek has published an article on their Website.

Hamdi also faked his way into Afghanistan as a journalist, it has emerged - arranging an interview with Bin Laden for the US journalist, John Millers. Conducted in 1998, the interview is the final interview Bin Laden gave to Western media.

It is believed that Hamdi has been in the office in Iraqi embassy in Ankara since May. His official title is a "consulate" Hürriyet can exclusively reveal.

Iraqi officials have declined to comment on the emerging news, although their Turkish counterparts in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have confirmed that Hamdi is actually working in the Iraqi consulate, although they stated that he has a "clear track record".
