Chirac repeats Villepin's words
French PM Dominque de Villepin's recent statement that Turkey must officially recognize Cyprus prior to the upcoming EU accession talks has made waves in the European press.The French newspaper Le Figaro noted yesterday that following Villepin's assertion, French President Jacques Chirac echoed the same sentiments in a meeting of French cabinet members. |

Turkey sends $1.8 million in aid to Africa
Turkey has sent $1.8 million in humanitarian aid to African countries which are suffering from the threat of famine daily. In a statement made on Wednesday, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said, ''Niger, Mali, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone and Guinea have been affected by famine after locust invasion and drought which have damaged crops in the continent recently. Millions of people including hundreds of thousands of children in those countries urgently require foodstuffs.'' |

Two dead in Istanbul explosion
Two people were killed and five injured as they left a wedding party, when a garbage can exploded in the Pendik district of Istanbul at around 12.15 am on Wednesday, reported the Anatolian news agency. The man and woman, Eda and Hatica Muslu were getting into their car as the explosion occurred. The cause of the explosion was not yet clear, and there had been no claims of responsibility as to who had committed the attack. |

Former TRNC President Denktas in Ankara
Former TRNC President Rauf Denktas called Turkey to announce to the world that it wouldn't accept the Greek Cypriot side as the legitimate government of whole Cyprus. Addressing a private meeting in Ankara, Denktas referred to the recent statement of Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer who said that ”Cyprus is a national cause for Turkey and there are two separate nations and states in Cyprus. |

TSK hands over command of ISAF to Italy
Turkish Gen. Ethem Erdagi, commander of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, handed over the command to Italian Gen. Mauro Del Vecchio on Thursday. Turkey had taken over the command of ISAF on February 13th from EUROCORPS.Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) had undertaken the responsibility of Kabul International Airport under command of Gen.
