PKK place armed men around "Kurdistan" banners in Kirkuk

The terror organization PKK has placed armed men around banners proclaiming "Kurdistan Democratic Confederation" in its offices in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk. Following efforts by Turkish authorities, through US and Iraqi officials, to get the banners taken down, the Hurriyet newspaper carried out its own research in Kirkuk to see whether anything had changed on this front.

The banners have not been taken down

On his way to Riiyad yesterday, Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said "We have shared our sensitivity on this matter with US and Iraqi authorities. We have asserted our demands, and are following up on the matter."

According to sources, the PKK, in order to intimidate anyone attempting to try and make them take down the "Kurdistan" banner, has placed armed men around their Kirkuk bureau, and has set up a check-point in front of the building. The PKK is also apparently not allowing cameras or cell phones to be used in photographing their Kirkuk offices, which are located quite near the US and British consulates in the city.

8 more offices

It has also been learned that there are at least 8 working offices belonging to the PKK in the Imam Kasim region of Kirkuk. There offices are apparently all within 100 meters of the Kirkuk police headquarters.
