Turkish woman gives birth at 58

A Turkish woman named Münevver Yavuz has given birth to a son at the age of 58, and consequently became the oldest Turkish woman to give birth ever. Münevver Yavuz, a chemical engineer, is sharing the over-due joy with her architect husband, Hasan Yavuz. Born through caesarean procedure, the newcomer measured 3.5 kilograms and 51.5 centimetres and was given the name, Sarp Sanver.

Having tied the knot seventeen years ago, the couple struggled to have a baby to no avail. Following a string of miscarriages and failed IVF treatments, they turned to the Kıbrıs Yaşam Hospital in The Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), where Münevver was impregnated by micro-injection methods.

Talking about her pregnancy, Münevver says, "I have put on thirteen kilograms. All it takes is patience, discipline and will."

Hasan Yavuz, in the meantime, thinks they are an exemplary couple: "We are living proof that age is no limit to become parents. We relied on
our physician and kept the faith alive."

"I wanted to feel reborn instead of nagging about my pensioner days. Science is offering a new array of opportunities for women now. It
doesn't matter if you are 60 or if you have gone through menopause. You can be a mother too - just believe in it."

The oldest woman to give birth in the world is a Romanian professor named Adriana İliescu, who became a mother at the age of 67, last January. Münevver breaks the record for Turkey.

Gynecology specialist Halil İbrahim Tekin, who works at the Kıbrıs Yaşam Hospital, elaborates; " I can confirm that Münevver is the oldest woman to become a mother in Turkey. She isn't unique, though. I have over fifty patients who gave birth after they hit 50. Becoming a mother is every woman's birthright - thankfully we now have the scientific means to help women exercise that right."
