London bombings claim 50 lives

The bomb blasts on three underground stations and a bus on Thursday left 700 people hurt, with 100 being held in hospital overnight - 22 of which are in a critical condition. Head of the London Met police Sir Ian Blair said there were a number of bodies still in the Tube station at Russel Square but that the final figure was unlikely to top 100. A huge investigation has been launched into the attacks, although, Sir Ian said it was "blindingly obvious" that a terrorist cell was operation in the UK.

Police has considered suspension of London's mobile network for security reasons, but had ruled it out.

Although, the city was sent into panic and fear, the emergency services response was outstanding and transport operators were running an almost normal service on most tube lines - although there were less commuters in the city today with most people opting to work from home.

Three-hundred people were admitted to hospital, of which about 80 remain after emergency surgery or being too badly burned to return home.

A claim on a website by the Secret Organisation Group of al-Qaeda Europe is now being take seriously. Scotland Yard have confirmed that seven people died in the Liverpool Street explosion and another seven at Edgeware road. At least 21 lost their lives in the King's Cross blasts.
