Four hot hours
A meeting of the EU Commission to discuss Turkey's EU accession plans took more than four hours, and was marked by long arguments between members. The focus of the 25 member EU Commission's meeting turned more to whether or not Turkey should become a member of the EU, rather than the planned discussion and approval of the Accession Talks Framework Document. President of the EU Commission, Jose Manuel Barrosso, put the final mark on the meeting with his declaration that "The EU must abide by its promised undertakings to Turkey. This is necessary if we are to maintain a self-esteem of our own." |

Turkish passengers stuck in limbo A Pegasus Hava flight bound for Konya in Turkey on Wednesday was delayed leaving passengers in limbo at a small area of Oslo's Gardermoen International Airport. About 100 passengers were due to board the flight at 9.30 p.m., however, they were still waiting at 3 a.m. on Thursday morning. The rather sticky situation arose when passengers were not allowed to leave the departure gates as the small area is defined as being outside of Norway. Passengers were not allowed to move about freely due to the area being outside the Shengen agreement which permits free travel within Europe. |

Belgian-Iranian lunch cancelled due to beer crisis A lunch which was supposed to take place with Herman De Croo, president of the Belgian House of Representatives, and a delegation from Iran, was cancelled due to the Iranian side's request that alcohol not be served with the food. Said De Croo, "Even for the tolerant Herman De Croo, this request is too much. If there's no beer, there's no lunch."
