Following his public rejection of the move to make April 24 the annual official day of remembrance for the Armenian genocide in the Ukraine, Ukrainian leader Viktor Yuschenko has been labeled "undemocratic" by the president of the World Armenian Congress, Ara Abramian. According to the Armenian newspaper "AZG," the motion to make April 24 an official day of remembrance in the Ukraine started with the decision of a local Crimean parliament.

But when news of the decision made its way to Ukrainian capital Kiev, Yuschenko apparently vetoed it, saying that in neither the Crimea nor anywhere else in the Ukraine would such a day of remembrance become official.
