According to a recent poll taken in Armenia, of the four countries with which they share borders, Armenians see only one as friendly: Russia. Azerbayjian, Turkey, and Georgia all made it to the top of the list of non-friendly nations, as did the US and England. Russia, on the other hand, made it to the top of the "friendly" list for Armenians, as did France and Iran.
On the other hand, responding to a question about which countries they felt it was necessary to develop better economic relations with, Armenians polled said Russia, Georgia, Iran, France, and Turkey, thus proving that friendship and money don't necessarily mix. Many Armenians blame Turkey for the current economic trouble they are having. 1,000 person poll shows Yerevan troubled The poll in question was conducted at the end of 2004, and included 1,000 Armenian citizens. According to Dr. Nilgun Gulcan of the International Strategic Research Organization, the results of the poll reassert the fact that Armenia has troubled relations with its neighbors and with the West. Said Gulcan, "If you have problems with everyone, then most likely you are the source of the problem. Rather than blaming everyone else, Yerevan should question itself." (Hürriyetim) |
