With its 18 seats in the Sofia Parliament, the Bulgarian ATAKA Party continues its anti-Turkish comments. Yesterday at a press conference, ATAKA leader Volen Siderov told reporters that it should be necessary for ethnic Turks residing in Bulgaria to change their names once again, and that Turkish surnames should be altered to carry the Bulgarian endings of "ov" and "ova." Recalling with fondness the assimilation campaign carried out by former Bulgarian communist leader Todor Jivkov, Siderov said "For example, we will take the name 'Hasan,' and make it 'Hasanov.'" During the press conference, Siderov also called for the immediate cessation of broadcasts in Turkish on Bulgarian National Television.
