Erdogan and Bush strengthen strategic partnership
The meeting yesterday between Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and US President George W. Bush lasted for one hour. Following the meeting, which took place in the White House's Oval Office, PM Erdogan asserted that "our strategic partnership has been strengthened," while Bush for his part praised Turkey as an "example of democracy in the Middle East." |

Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan at the White House
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan held meetings with US President Bush in Washington on Wednesday. Praising Turkey as an example of democracy to the broader Middle East, President Bush said, Turkey and the US have important strategic relations." The US president also pledged to help stop Kurdish militants entering Turkey from Iraqi borders. "We discussed a lot of foreign policy and one of the US's most important foreign policies is to work with the Palestinians so they can have their own state living side by side with Israel in peace." |

In an interview two days ago on CNN International, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke about the "turban" question in Turkey, and how he was trying to bring about mutual understanding to different aspects of society on this front. On the subject of legal limitations to the wearing of the turban for women, Erdogan pointed out in his interview that the way the people of Turkey approach the matter, and the way certain institutions approach it, don't always overlap. |

EU organized secret Cyprus talks end in Turkish-Greek disagreement It has been revealed that as the US and the United Nations work to find a solution to the ongoing Cyprus crisis, top level authorities from the Turkish and Greek sides of the island have come together in Brussels. In talks organized Monday and Tuesday of this week by EU leaders, Turks and Greeks bargained on the subject of lifting isolationary measures from Northern Cyprus. The meetings ended unsuccessfully, with stiff requests from the Greek side stalling developments from the Turkish side. |

George Soros: I think the AKP believes in democracy, deserves our support
George Soros, founder and organizer of the Open Society Institute, as well as the Quantum Fund, has said that he thinks that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's Justice and Development (AKP) Party believes in democracy. Northern Cyprus conference representation sparks Greek withdrawal from the meeting The "Istanbul Global Security and Democracy Conference" is starting under the shadows of the Northern Cyprus crisis. When Greece, which was planning on sending its Interior Minister to attend, discovered the planned attendance of Northern Cypriot representation, they pulled out. Turkey and Greece sign judicial protocol
As part of a joint initiative between Turkey and it's neighboring Greece, Turkish Justice Minister Cemil Cicek and Greek Justice Minister Anastasios Papaligouras signed a judicial cooperation protocol on Wednesday in the Greek capital of Athens. Cicek said at the signing ceremony that it would be beneficial for both countries to share their experiences, however, Papaligouras said that the protocol was a neccessary part of Turkey's aspirations of accession into the European Union. |

Second-blasts hits Ceyhan pipeline
A second-explosion has hit the Ceyhan pipeline in northern Iraq, putting a further blow to Baghdad's oil exports. The first blast hit the pipeline last Friday cutting the flow of oil to Ceyhan, with experts saying that it will take up to ten days to fix. Reuters news agency reported that the main pipeline near the city of Baiji had been damaged by an explosion Wednesday. |
