Hungary demand the return of kidnapped boy Mehmet

Last week's visit of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Hungary, brought the kidnapping of a Turkish eight-year-old boy back into the spotlight. The boy who was born to a Hungarian mother was kidnapped by his father and brought back to Turkey after the boy's mother married someone else. The boy's father said he had no choice in the matter once he found out that his wife had been cheating. The boy in question, Mehmet Karoly Tuysuz is reported to have said, "I'm happy with my dad, don't give me back."

The father of the boy confirmed that he had kidnapped his son bringing him back to Turkey but he said that the Hungarians had left him no choice. The boy's father also said that his wife had cheated on him in the US and married someone else. "She made my son convert to Christianity and took custody of him through dishonest means. What father could allow this?"

The issue was back on the agenda with the visit of the Turkish PM when Erdogan was asked by the Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany to find Mehmet and return him at once. The Hungarian media turned the issue into one of national concern and it has even been stated that Hungary would block Turkey's EU entry should the boy not be returned.

The Turkish Security Directorate said that Turkish security forces have been searching for little Mehmet everywhere and that should he be found, the boy will be returned to Hungary at once.
