Second prize went to Jim Jarmusch's "Broken Flowers" , a drama starring Bill Murray as an aging Don Juan who is chasing the son he never knew.
Tommy Lee won best actor for "Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada", in his first feature debut. He plays a texas ranch hand who forces his best friend's killer to dig up the body and haul it for reburial in Mexico. The film also won best screenplay for Mexican writer Guillermo Arriaga.
Hanna Laslo won best actress for her role as a non-stop talking cabdriver in Israeli film director Amos Gitais' film "Free Zone".
Austrian director Michael Haneker won an award for directing "Hidden", a cryptic thriller about a couple menaced by a video stalker.
The two movies that stole the show of the festival were two films that weren't in the grand competition: George Lucas' Star Wars and Wooody Allen's "Match Point", who some say would have won the competition had it have been entered.
