Erdogan's meeting with Bush set for June 8

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to the US for meetings with the US administration has been set for June 8. PM Erdogan will depart Turkey on June 7 and return on June 12, taking Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul along with him. Gul will meet with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on June 8, the same date Erodgan is to meet with US President George W. Bush.  
Erdogan sends a message of peace

Marking May 9 Europe Day, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan released a message in appreciation of this year being the year of EU bloc acceptance that Turkey will enter into accession talks on October 3. Erdogan stressed that this was a historical year for Turkey and the EU - with Turkey being able to enter the bloc it would show just how diverse the union is and prove to the world just how different cultures and faith can live together in peace. 
European Court to rule on Ocalan case

The European Court of Human Rights will deliver its final verdict over the case of imprisoned leader of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) Abdullah Ocalan later this week on whether or not to grant the rebel leader a retrial. The court is expected to rule on an appeal that has been launched by Ocalan's lawyers - on the grounds that the detention was neither legal nor humane and that the Turkish trial had not been fair.

Israel trip for Turkish head of National Security Council

Another significant visit to Israel by a top official from the Turkish government will take place next week, when the General Secretary of the National Security Council (MGK), Yigit Alpogan, visits Tel Aviv. At the invitation of the General Secretary of the Israeli National Security Council, Giora Eilant, Alpogan will be in Israel for meetings from May 17-19. There are no plans for him to pass to the Palestinian side.  
20 years later comes the declaration requirement

For the past 20 years, a bureau at the Ataturk Airport by the name of TUSLOG, staffed by US soldiers, has been overseeing the undeclared entry of official and personal US cargo into Turkey. Referred to by authorities as a "communications bureau," TUSLOG is run by soldiers linked to the US Air Force, who have had full permission to move freely about the apron area of the runway to unload official and personal cargo carried by the planes. 
Dervis: Turkey's efforts are within a vision of a peaceful modern world

Speaking at a panel in Ankara on 'The Future of Turkey-EU Works Relations' newly appointed United Development Program (UNDP) Administrator Kemal Dervis said that Turkey had made several reforms in favor of joining the EU, but some that weren't. Commenting on Turkey's efforts to join the EU bloc Dervis said, "We exert efforts not for EU membership but for a modern world which is open to peace and brotherhood."
