One police officer is dead and four others were injured following a bomb blast in the Turkish seaside resort town of Kusadesi on the west Agean coast. The 50-year-old, chief superintendent, who later died in hospital from severe abdominal injuries, was carrying the parcel bomb back to his vehicle without any protective gear after believing the package to be harmless. No civilians were injured during the explosion.

The injured officers were being treated in nearby hospitals but no statements have been issued on their condition.
