Turk released from Guantanamo Bay

A Turkish man who was held for three years and four months without charge at the US detention center in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, was released Tuesday and flown to the southern Turkish military base of Incirlik. The 24-year-old Turk was released on one condition that he be handed over to the Turkish military for dodging mandatory service.

Salih Uyar, who was arrested in Afghanistan on the grounds of suspected terrorists links to Al-Qaeda, was one of three Turkish nationals to be held in Guantanamo without charge. A local prosecutor secured the release of Uyar after proving "insufficient incriminating evidence".

Guatanamo Bay has been used by the US to hold many people without trial access to lawyers indefinitely.
