Order to Destroy Orhan Pamuk Books Overturned by Governor
An order by Mustafa Altinpinar, Provincial Governor of the Sutculer district of Isparta, to destroy all books by renowned author Orhan Pamuk, was officially vetoed yesterday by Isparta Governor Isa Parlak.

"Nazi-Gold" Commission Solution Proposed in Ankara for Armenian Genocide

Swiss Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey, in Ankara yesterday for an official visit, made a significant proposal to Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul regarding the Armenian genocide issue. Reminding Gul of how Switzerland was pressured to create an international committtee to look into the events surrounding the Holocaust and the gold belonging to Jewish people in Swiss banks, Calmy-Rey noted that "Turkey ought to accept an international commission on the subject of the Armenian genocide." 
World Bank: "Your Biggest Problem is the 20 Million People Living Under the Poverty Level"

While discussing how Turkey needs to develop a strong working environment, World Bank Turkey representative Andrew Vorkink noted that one of the most serious problems facing the country was the enormous gap between rich and poor segments of the society. 
Turkey agrees to sign EU protocol
Kristine Nagy, spokesperson for the EU enlargement commission said yesterday that Ankara had agreed in writing to an extension of Turkey's customs agreement to Cyprus.

A Third Earthquake Expected

Though no tsunami materialized in the wake of the 8.7 Richter scale earthquake centered in Sumatra on Monday, a warning that a third earthquake may be soon to follow has awakened further fear in the region. The last earthquake has been identified as an aftershock to the devestating quake that took place on December 26th, 2004 off of Sumatra.
