Beirut bomb blast kills three
Three people were killed when a bomb blast tore through a shopping mall in a predominantly Christian area of north Beirut, Wednesday. It is the third bombing within six weeks to tear through the Lebanese capital, since the tragic killing of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. |

"An IMF team may come to Turkey in April"
Turkish state minister Ali Babacan has said that an International Monetary Fund (IMF) team may come to Turkey in April to work on and update the letter of intent. Minister Babacan has indicated that a date when an agreement can be signed with the IMF is not known for sure yet. |

Journalists march in Istanbul
Over 150 Turkish journalists marched to Istanbul's Supreme court, in handcuffs and gags, protesting the new Turkish Penal Code (TCK), yesterday. The new TCK, which is thought to have ambiguous wording set to limit freedom of expression within the Turkish press, will come into affect April 1. |

Conference held at U:S. Congress on "Ottoman Turco- American Tragedy" A row broke out during a conference organized at the U.S. Congress building by the Assembly of Turkish-American Associations (ATAA) on ''Ottoman Turco-Armenian Tragedy'' on Tuesday. Speaking at the conference, Prof. Dr. Turkkaya Ataov from the Ankara University said that the western press had always been in favor of Armenians who were recognized as the first Christian state, and turned a blind eye to losses of the Muslim world. |

Turkey is Europe's ninth biggest economy
Turkey has become Europe's ninth biggest economy on basis of its current prices and gross national product in 2004, said the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO) today. The research by ISO stated that, with its dynamic population of 72.8 million people, Turkey is an important commercial partner with the European Union. |
