Foreign ministry: the issue of IDPs is a national one

Hurriyet

The government responded yesterday to a report issued by the New York based "Human Rights Watch" last week, that claimed "Turkey wasn't doing enough to help the internally displaced kurds in Turkey". The foreign ministry said that the report had addressed it as an international problem but that it was an internal problem and that with such a report the issues could be solved inside Turkey.

The ministry stressed that Turkey was openly cooperating with the United Nations (UN) and the European Union (EU) over such matters and that Turkey was ready to do its best in the fight against the IDPs.

"Our government decided to maintain its good-willed efforts aimed at finding satisfying and lasting remedies to problems of our displaced citizens in cooperation with international organizations," said a spokesman from the foreign ministry yesterday.
