Women claim sexual harassment at a House of Refuge
Seventeen people have been taken into custody following an investigation into claims by women who took refuge at the Ankara Children's Education and Therapy centre, which is tied to the government. It appears that a number of women who were seeking refuge at the centre were involved in acts of prostitution. |

German press debate circulation of Vakit newspaper
Following two recent editions of Vakit newspapers that were published in late February 2005 which were entitled, “Heil Otto! The Oven is Ready!” and “The Second Nazi Period,” there has been some debate in the German press over whether or not the newspaper should be banned due to the hard line pro-Nazi / anti-Semitic sentiment it provokes. In Tuesdays edition of Vakit, Nazi Swastikas and Jewish Stars were drawn in Otto’s eyes. |

Military plane disappears from radar over Zonguldak
Yavuz Erkmen, governor of northern Zonguldak city, said, ''we have been informed that a military plane disappeared from the radar over Yenice town of western Black Sea city of Karabuk. However, it has not been confirmed that the plane crashed.'' |

French Ambassador in Ankara Paul Poudade said, ''we will be pleased to see Turkey as being European.'' Poudade visited Bursa Metropolitan Mayor Hikmet Sahin on Thursday.''We are pleased that Turkey got a date for EU entry talks. Talat: "Giving Maras in return of openning of Magusa is impossible

Turkish President rejects student amnesty bill
Turkish President Ahmet Sezer vetoed the student amnesty law, which pardoned some 240,000 students that were kicked out of school on academic or disciplinary grounds after June 2000, said a spokesperson from the president's press office yesterday. Sezer's office said that the three-fifth majority necessary for such a law to come into effect had not been reached in the 550-seat parliament. |

Renault committed to making a 200 Million Euro investment in Turkey
French automotive giant Renault’s president, Louis Schweitzer, who will hand over his duties to Carlos Ghosn in the upcoming days, confirmed yesterday that the "production of a new model in Turkey" was at last "in the works". In an interview Schweitzer said, “Carlos Ghosn will explain everything relating to the new model.” Schweitzer, who was reluctant to give extensive details at this point, said that the new model would be like the Megane Sedan and would be produced and sold to the world from Turkey. |

Death toll rises to 11 in counterfeit raki incident in İstanbul
Ebru Yapagci, who drunk counterfeit raki in an Istanbul restaurant, died early Thursday. The number of victims increased to 11, officials said. Seven people were earlier reported to die after drinking fake raki produced in a makeshift distillery at a parking lot in Istanbul and distributed to several places. |

Greece scales down security threat from Turkey
Greece has scaled down the threat that Turkey poses to its security for the first time in more than 30 years in its annual defence report.Greece's foremost threat "is from the north which includes terrorism, arms dealing, international crime and instability", said the report, approved by the defence committee and the government late on Tuesday. Turkey comes second. |
