4000 bottles of fake rakı discovered in Antalya
According to a statement released by the Gendarme Command Headquarters, a truck was stopped on the Isparta-Antalya highway around Yeşilkaraman Köyü. During a search of the vehicle special forces discovered 362 parcels holding 4,344 fake rakı bottles. The fake rakı was hidden under empty fruit and vegetable boxes. The driver is being held in custody by the M.D.B. |

Ukraine's key pipeline is reversed The prime ministers of Ukraine and Georgia said that the direction of oil flow would be reversed for the Odessa-Brody pipeline that runs between Russia and Ukraine. The Ukraine's key pipeline, was originally going to be used for pumping oil from Russia to Odessa, but will now be used for oil shipments from Kazakhastan and Azerbajan through Georgia to Western European markets. |

French to hold referendum on Turkey's EU membership
French parliament voted "yes" yesterday to hold a referendum on Turkey's bid for EU membership. Despite fighting strong opposition from his centre-right party UMP, French Prime Minister Jack Chirac is in favor of Turkish EU membership. The party is currently split down the middle on the subject, but are expected to reach an agreement in December 2005. |
