Former Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz Trial gets Under Way at the Supreme Court

The trial of Former Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz and Former State Minister Gunes Taner based upon charges of corruption in the eternal affairs of Turk Bank got under way at the Supreme Court this morning. 
Selcuk Knew Kozinoglu for Seven Years

It was revealed that businessman Ibrahim Selcuk, who was detained in the investigation into "charges of corruption in the energy sector" and accused of "involving National Intelligence Agency (MIT) officer Kasif Kozinoglu in credit collection" actually knew Kozinoglu for 7-8 years. Selcuk is also accused of involving mafia boss Alaattin Cakici in the fraud. 
German Journalist Keese was Misunderstood

German's Welt am Sonntag's Editor Christopher Keese announced yesterday there had been a misunderstanding with regards to press coverage in Turkey about the interview he had conducted with Prime Minister Erdogan in Davos two weeks ago. The prime minister was reported as saying the interview had never taken place. However, after speaking with his colleagues in Ankara PM Erdogan recalled the interview.

Surprise Resignation From Mumcu

The Minister of Culture and Tourism Erkan Mumcu, has resigned from the cabinet and the ruling Justice and Development party (AKP) over fundamental differences with the party on issues such as; the headscarf ban, adultery and foreign policy ( especially on the EU). Mumcu, 42-years and a law graduate, announced his resignation yesterday evening following the leave of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan for Albania for an official visit. 
For the First Time a Former PM Will Be Tried at Supreme Court
Former Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz's charged with "causing corruption in Turk Bank" will begin his trial today at the Supreme Court. This is a pivotal day in Turkish political history . For the first time in the history of the Turkish Republic, a prime minister will be tried at the Supreme Court. 
$2.9 Billion Pipeline Almost Finished
CEYLAN, Turkey - The 1,100 mile pipeline which is anticipated to carry Caspian crude oil from Azerbaijan through Georgia and Turkey is in it's final stages. The project, which cost $2.9 billion, is almost finished and is deemed to bring relief to the West's dependance on Middle Eastern crude oil. 
Rallies in Support of Ocalan
Thirty four people were injured at rallies held across Turkey yesterday to celebrate the sixth anniversary of "the detention of PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan". The celebrations were held by supporters of Ocalan. Police clashed with crowds of people protesting the detention six years ago of Ocalan in Kenya. 
U.S. Focused on Security In Northern Iraq
UK , February 16 - The Guardian daily newspaper reported that the U.S. is strongly opposed to the probable intervention of Turkey with regards to the subject of claims of Kurds rigging the election results in Kirkuk. The U.S. reconfirmed that they had concentrated on a the security of Northern Iraq as a precaution to the days following the elections over national security within the country. 
Religious Education is a Social Reality
State Minister Mehmet Aydin, who is responsible for religious affairs, answered the call by the European Council (EC) with regards to the removal of compulsory religious eduction in schools and the removal of religious preference on identity cards in Turkey yesterday by saying: "Won't we teach Islam to our children?" 
Metro Promises Further Investments of 300 Million Euros in Turkey
German Metro company, who has already made investments in Turkey of 500 million Euros, has made promises of further investment. Metro's CEO and chairman Hans Joachim Körber announced that they will invest an additional 300 million Euros in Turkey. 
Detainees Released over Pharmaceutical Fraud Accusations
Twelve of the detainees in custody for the investigation launched due to claims that pharmaceuticals were sold from Roche to the Social Securities Administration with exorbitant price, were released.
