CHP's Gaziantep Deputy Abdulkadir Ates was named the Chairman of the Political Affairs Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Former Greek Foreign Minister Pangalos who was once dubbed as an enemy of Turks also voted for Ates, besides the ministers of Balkan countries.

For the first time a Turkish deputy became the Chairman of an important commisison at the Assembly.

TURKISH CYPRIOTS

Ozdil Nami and Huseyin Ozgurgun attended for the first time as official representatives in the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Both deputies will from now on take part in the general assembly and commission work. But they will not have the right to vote. They will be present in the session as the representatives of the Turkish Cypriot Community.
