Strife was under was in Southeast city Siirt during the funeral of two PKK woman militants on January 20. Demonstrators staging protests on the streets, chanted slogans and burned two cars in the city. Many homes, bus stops, a cafe and windows of a state office were broken in the raids.
About 100 people were detained in the incidents. Part of these were later on released. Nine policemen and 25 demonstrators were injured in clashes when the PKK supporters demanded the burial of the two terrorists in the city.
Siirt's Governor Murat Yildirim said that some politicians had turned the funeral into a political show and "Regretfully, families were influenced by these provocation." |
