Health Minister Recep Akdag said that work was under way to open military hospitals to the public and the Defence Ministry was preparing a motion on the issue. He said that the workers affiliated to SSK (Social Security ) hospitals had started making use of the state hospitals in 2004 and "Even though the state took care about 35 million SSK employees, there had been no pressure of work."

Akdag said that 50 % of the capacity of military hospitals were to be opened to the public.
