Ugur Mumcu, Commemorated

Journalist-Author Ugur Mumcu is being remembered on the 12th year of his murder in a bomb-raid on his car. Ceremonies for Mumcu started with a wreath laid in the Ugur Mumcu Park in Batikent Ankara in the morning. Representatives of the Batikent Democracy Platform gathered in front of the monument. Celal Akpinarli , the Board member of the Kemalist Thought Association, said that with his ideas, behavior and enlightening revelations, Mumcu had been a warning element of the society. 
Land Sold To Foreigners Smaller Than Heybeliada
Public Works Minister Zeki Ergezen said that foreigners had bought immovable properties in 42 provinces totalling 4 million 420 thousand square meters. He said that of these, 10 thousand 121 were individuals, 3 were companies. The total land purchased by foreigners in Turkey is smaller than the Heybeliada in the Marmara. 
Treasury Archives Became Paper in SEKA

Gazi Ercel, the former President of the Central Bank said that numerous documents belonging to the Treasury were sent to SEKA (Turkish Paper Works Plants) and "An important part of the Turkish history has been destroyed." Ercel told Hurriyet daily that the archives of the Treasury General Directorate which was in the building where Americans had their Tuslog office, had been sent to SEKA. 
72 Dead, 252 Wounded in Bairam

In spite of all measures and warnings, there was again blood shed on high ways in the 5-day holiday and the. 72 people lost their lives and 252 were wounded in traffic accidents. The cause of the deaths were the same: excessive speed and lack of care. 
Kurd Leaders Agree with U.S. on Kirkuk

Jalal Talabani, the leader of Iraqi Patriotic Union of Kurdistan said that they have reached agreement with the Iraqi Interim Administration and the ambassadors of Britain and U.S. who gave written assurance over rendering the former status of Kirkuk. 
Van River Dies

Our biggest lake Van is under a very serious threat of pollution. Its pollution rate is 40 % and its remaining life seems to be 25 years. Specialists say that the lake will be clean only in 50 years if measures are taken today. The Public Works Ministry earmarked 448 trillion TL to rescue the lake. 
Germany Captured Sakik
After Turkey demanded his extradition, Germany detained Remzi Kartal, a former DEP deputy and the leader of PKK/KADEK in Lunberg. Aydar was lobbying for his organization in Europe. His supporters are staging rallies in Europe for his release. 
Baykal: Sarigul was Provoked by U.S. !

Deniz Baykal, the leader of Republican People's Party CHP, said that the United States had provoked Sisli mayor Mustafa Sarigul in the party (against himself) because CHP had voted against the March 1 Troops Permit at Parliament. Speaking at a meeting in delegates in Izmir, Baykal said that "We do not regard this congress of CHP as a result of its internal strife. 
Greek Cypriot Fire to Turkish Soldier
A Turkish soldier patrolling on the Green Line in Cyprus, was wounded by a Greek Cypriot soldier, on his face. The Greek Cypriot side said that the one who fired, might be a civilian.
The attack took place towards morning Saturday.
