Financial Times: Balances are changing in kırkuk
When additional time was given for the application of 78 thousand additional Kurd voters in Kirkuk, the United Arab Front withdrew from the elections. Two PKK parties are joining the elections. The Chairman of the United Arab Front Vasfi Al Vasi said that the reason of their boycott was the one-week additional time given to receive the applications of 78 thousand Kurd voters. |

Pakdemirli: Where are our Carpets?
Former Minister Ekrem Pakdemirli and former Treasury Undersecretary Tevfik Altinok said that they have registered in the Treasury, two very valuable carpets presented to them when they were abroad. Pakdemirli said that "An official of a big carpet company presented me a carpet in 1084. When I learned that it was worth 10 thousand dollars, I had it registered at the inventory of the Treasury. Let this be inspected." |

Military Hospitals to Public
Health Minister Recep Akdag said that work was under way to open military hospitals to the public and the Defence Ministry was preparing a motion on the issue. He said that the workers affiliated to SSK (Social Security ) hospitals had started making use of the state hospitals in 2004 and "Even though the state took care about 35 million SSK employees, there had been no pressure of work." |

Siirt War
Strife was under was in Southeast city Siirt during the funeral of two PKK woman militants on January 20. Demonstrators staging protests on the streets, chanted slogans and burned two cars in the city. Many homes, bus stops, a cafe and windows of a state office were broken in the raids. |

First Turkish Chairman to Council of Europe Commission
CHP's Gaziantep Deputy Abdulkadir Ates was named the Chairman of the Political Affairs Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Former Greek Foreign Minister Pangalos who was once dubbed as an enemy of Turks also voted for Ates, besides the ministers of Balkan countries. |

Baykal: My Death May Not be Natural
A statement made by CHP leader Deniz Baykal in a meeting two days ago in Denizli, caused controversy. Baykal later on denied that he had said "My death may not be normal." A number of party members attending that meeting said that Deniz Baykal had said such a word and CHP's province leader Ertemur said that "Our Chairman said these words in relation to (Slain journalist (Ugur Mumcu. ) He did not imply that he was under a threat.." |

In the period between January and September of 2004 when Turkish workers and drivers were under threat 3 thousand 915 people who failed to find jobs in Turkey went to Iraq to work. |

Consumer Trust Index Up The consumer trust index in Turkey increased by 2.40 % in December over the past month, to 105.2. The increase in the trust index was attributed to the optimistic evaluation of consumers that their purchasing power and the overall economic situation in Turkey and the chances to find good jobs, have increased in Turkey. |
