A Turkish soldier patrolling on the Green Line in Cyprus, was wounded by a Greek Cypriot soldier, on his face. The Greek Cypriot side said that the one who fired, might be a civilian. The attack took place towards morning Saturday.
Greek Cypriot Defense minister Kiriakos Mavronikolas said after the attack that the raid had been at the Kaymakli region. The Turkish soldier was immediately hospitalized after the raid and the Cyprus turkish Cypriot forces set the UN forces into alarm.
After the incident Greek Minister Mavronikolas said that "There are no evidence that we have opened the fire."
On 8 September 1996, Greek Cypriots had killed a Turkish soldier patrolling on the border and wounded another. |
