Gazi Ercel, the former President of the Central Bank said that numerous documents belonging to the Treasury were sent to SEKA (Turkish Paper Works Plants) and "An important part of the Turkish history has been destroyed." Ercel told Hurriyet daily that the archives of the Treasury General Directorate which was in the building where Americans had their Tuslog office, had been sent to SEKA.
The archives included numerous documentation about the Keban Dam.
Ercel explained the reason of such an operation, by saying that "When these were sent to SEKA I was on a duty abroad. I learned about it when I returned. Big mouse were found in the archive and the guards were scared of them. That may be the reason.
"An important part of the Turkish finance history has thus been destroyed" he said. About the SEKA building that was once used by American Tuslof, Ercel said that "There were such corridors and cables beneath the building that you would be astonished. When it was used as the office of Tuslog, some secret meetings of CIA in 1960s and 1970s were reportedly held here." (Hurriyet,1) |
