Foreign minister Abdullah Gul met Egyptian Foreign minister Ahmet Ebu Gayd as well as Syrian FM Farouk Al Shara, The Iraqi Envoy of UN Esref Gazi, during the summit in Jordan. During his talk with Ebu Gayd and Al Shara, Gul briefed both ministers on his contacts in Palestine and Israel.
In these contacts, the disturbance felt by Egypt towards Turkey's new initiative for the Middle East peace, surfaced. After Gul said that some positive signals may come from both sides after the Palestinian elections, Ebu Gayd said that "We also plan to attract both sides to negotiations after the elections and call them to Cairo." He then told journalists that "What is the initiative of Turkey? All of us want to attract the parties to the meetings." |
