Because of the disaster that killed 150 thousand people, the world is competing to help and observed a 3-minute tribute of silence for the victims across Europe, we failed to display the same sensitivity.

The member countries of EU declared mourning for the casualties in the tsunami disaster yesterday. People in every European country observed a 3-minute silence for the casualties. But in Turkey, the government could not announce this mourning to the people sufficiently.

The media did not report about the tribute.

For that reason the Turkish people who lived the pain of natural disasters frequently could not join the mourning. While all the countries of the world worked hard to help the victims of the disaster and collected millions of dollars, Turkey could not succeed here too. Our neighbor Greece collected 12,1 million dollars by phones; the population of Greece is 11 million. The pledges in Greece reached up to 14,7 million dollars. In Turkey only the flags were halved during the silent stand.
