The practice has started for the transfer of natural gas contracts to the private sector. The leading companies in Turkey and the world are in a queue for the contracts. BP, Shell, Gazprom, Koc-Statoil, Sabanci, Unit International, Calık and Habas are among the giants which are interested for the transfer of the contracts.

The Energy Regulation Board prepared the conditions for the tender and officially started the application procedure for the transfer of natural gas contracts to private sector.

The Energy Regulating Board determined the conditions for the importation adequacy license document which the companies have to have in order to enter the tender. The deadline of the application is 19 January 2005 and the importation adequacy license document has to be submitted until 4 January 2005. The company which will import will sign a written contract indicating that it will stockpile 10 % of the natural gas within Turkish borders.
