In the interview upon Duzel’s question about whether those desiring Turkey’s joining EU were a minority among Kurd politicians and intellectuals, Enver Sezgin said that “No. The ones who desire EU are a majority. But their bigger part is unaware of teh importance of the EU process.
Asked by Duzel whether Kurd nationalism was losing its significance, Sezgin said that “No, when compared to Turkish nationalism. The Kurd nationalism is not losing its position within the EU process. Because, Kurds in Turkey were deemed to be non-existing for long years. That nationalism can not disappear at once. Let us speak frankly; Kurd intellectuals were pressed By the State. But they were pressed also by PKK and Knogra-Gel. Different ideas were not discussed among Kurds, thoughts were not voiced clearly...”
Asked whether Kurd intellectuals reacted at armed struggle sufficiently, Sezgin said that “No, but some feel disturbed. Because armed actions will not contribute to solve the Kurd issue. The clashes that took long years made the biggest damage on Kurds..To speak frankly, there is no other strong political movement among Kurds except Kongra-Gel. Its leader is in prison. I observe contradictions in text issued on the name of Ocalan. I do not know what he has in his mind but his mind is apparently confused...
There should be definite opposition to armed actions. It benefits no one expect a small group. These actions benefit only the ones advocating status-quo. The biggest harm will be on Kurds, those for reforms... I propose to Ocalan to give up
blackmailing...
