Democracy and Religion State are not Compatible
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer said that democracy and a religion state can were not compatible, whether the latter was moderate or fundamentalist and such definitions on Turkey like "Moderat Islam" and "Islam Republic" were totally unacceptable.  
Referendum Is After 15 Years
French President Jacques Chirac said that he supported the proposal to held a referendum in France in respect of EU membership of Turkey, however that this was not possible before the completion of negotiations.

Retired Lieutenant General Hasan Kundakci said that the general in the photo found in Abdullah Catli's bag, might be his. Having worked for a long time as a public order regional commander at Southeastern Anatolia, Kundakci stated that he never met with Catli.

The State Statistics Institute (DIE) announced that the unemployment ratio, which was 10% at the second quarter of the last year, fell to 9.3% at the second quarter of this year.  
World Bank: EU Must Launch the Negotiations
World Bank Chairman James Wolfensohn said that the World Bank supported the launching of membership negotiations between Turkey and the EU and hoped the EU would render a decision towards this direction. 
%10 Increase To Civil Servants
At the meeting he held with the civil confederations chairmen, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan proposed an increase of 10% in wages and a one-degree promotion for the ones who began working after 1991. Erdogan also accepted the record pardon. 
Moody's Upgraded Turkey's Rating
Moody's, which had said after the upgrading of Standard& Poor's (S&P) on August 17, 2004 that Turkey's rating was now at the place she deserved, announced yesterday that it upgraded the credit rating in domestic currency and the country upper limit rating in foreign currency. 
5 Terrorists Were Killed in Tokat
Five terrorists, who were members of DHKP-C and took part in many actions at Tokat region, were killed. Sergeant Ahmet Kurt was also killed during the clash.
