The second gathering of Europeans and Moslem countries faces the risk of postponement upon the initiatives of Greece and Greek Cypriots. The essence of the issue is the invitation extended to the Turkish Cypriots for the meeting.
In the first meeting, with the backing of Athens, Greek Cypriots had attempted to prevent the participation of Turkish Cypriots. But nothing changed and Turkish Cypriots sat behind the sign of TRNC and represented the Turkish Cypriot Republic.
This time the situation is different. Because Turkish Cypriot delegates will attend the meeting with an upgraded status, after the OIC gave them the states of Turkish Cypriot State. They used to join OIC meetings as observers in previous meetings. The Greek and Greek Cypriot Administrations interpret this move as the recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and for ten days they are putting intensive pressures in Brussels and EU capitals.
