A Cruch in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was bomb-raided towards morning early Friday. Greek Cypriots were to hold a religious resvice in the historical church on 1 and 2 September, for the first time since 1974.
After the attack that damaged the Aya Mamas Church, both Greek Cypriots and the Turkish Cypriot government condemned it , saying that the service will still be held. Turkish Cypriot Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat visited the Church after the raid and voiced reaction to the aggressors. "The mass will not be cancelled. A few terrorists can not intimidate us. If our state surrenders to these, that means we are not a state. They are trying to humiliate us before the world. This is a very unethical action," he said. (Hürriyetim) |
