Cakici was captured on July, 14 in Graz, Austria. He was being tried of ordering an armed raid to a sports club, injuring 15 people and of forming an illegal organization. The 1-year and 8-month prison sentence given to him was found small by the Appeals Court. He had fled Turkey just before being detained.
Cakici had first fled Turkey with another Green passport, this time, of former MIT official Yavuz Atac.
France had extradited Cakici to Turkey on the condition that he will not be tried of murder, as Turkey had death sentence in 1999. Cakici will now be tried of murder, if handed to Turkey. After the Appeals Court had found his sentence small and prepared to punish him once more, Cakici had fled from Turkey to Italy in May.
