The report emphasises that Turkey suffers from unlawfulness but no one in the triangle of politician, businessman and bureaucrat is being punished. It also draws attention to that in the cases about looted banks, attorneys are changed very frequently in order to prolong the trial and to benefit from lapse of time.
The report conveys that the lapse of time, which is 5 years for some crimes, expires until a new government comes to office; so it becomes too late to do anything even if the new government realizes the unlawfulness.
ATO Chairman Sinan Aygün told that the increase planned in lapse of time period might not be sufficient because the trials lasted too long, even 20-30 years. “The duration of cases should be reduced and the judges charged in the cases that undergo lapse of time should be investigated” said Aygün.
