Elvan and her trainer Ertan Hatipoglu told Hurriyet that they owed their success to this newspaper and the Enka Sports Club. Only Hurriyet was beside Elvan, at her championship night. She said "I ran for our flag. I found all facilities in Turkey. I will succeed further."
After the World Championship in Paris, the Turkish Athletism Federation had put Hatipoglu before the discipline board, for his undisciplined behavior, upon the demand of Youth and Sports officer Mehmet Atalay. The ten-month punishment given to Atalay, meant the end of the career of the trainer and of his professional relationship with Elvan. Hurriyet took action at this point, and reported about the punishment, in its headline, dubbing it "Ugly Execution" and rescued Hatipoglu, who received great public support.
Hatipoglu described Elvan as "The Ferrari of Athletism." He said "Success, rather than money is important for us."
