The debt of Sabit Golbeyoglu, who has been a baker for 55 years in Heybeliada, increased to 24 million 800 thousand 5 lira with the interest processing from 1999; later on to 34 million 849 thousand 356 lira with other expenses. Golbeyoglu for whom the court bailiff's office carried out action, was sentenced to prison for 10 days on grounds that he did not declare his assets.
Golbeyoglu said that he did not pay his debt because 1 TL had gone out of circulation. He said; “If I had found 1 TL, I would have paid my debt; however I could not find that money. I do not know whether I should laugh or cry.”
