Sinan Engin, the administrator of Besiktas soccer club, who has reportedly enabled Cakici to flee Turkey on a false passport, said that Cakici was a congress member of the soccer club of Istanbul and “I know him for 25 years. I have no relation with him other than friendship.”
Sinan Engin is currently vacationing in Italy, with his wife.
Columnist Fatih Altayli says “When I warned that transfers in the soccer clubs are organized by the Mafia, no one had believed me. When I said that the Mafia was pressing referees, against no body listened to me.
“How, one of the biggest soccer clubs of Turkey, Besiktas, has been used in providing passports and a visa to Cakici, is clear. Let me tell you; this is only the visible side of the iceberg. Because big amounts of money is involved in sports and Mafia can not remain away from it...”
