Tight Measures for NATO Summit

Turkey entered a security alarm for the NATO Summit which it will host in Istanbul on June 28-29. The tightest security measures are to be taken for the biggest organization in the Republic's history. The security plans were made on the basis of ground, sea and air.

The measures to be taken on the ground include;

* The number of snipers was increased to 500 from 150.

* 450 new vehicles and 1200 motorcycles were bought for the police.

* To protect U.S. President and P.M. Erdogan, 15 well-equipped motorcycles are to be used.

* The frequencies are to be mixed with “Jammer” machines because of the possibility of attacks with maquette airplanes.

* The number of experts on explosives is to be increased.

* 4 explosive destruction robots are to be ready.

* 50 superior experts on explosives from police and gendarme are to go to Istanbul.

The measures are to be taken on the sea as follows;

 * During the summit, air, naval and ground access points will be observed.

* The Bosporus is to be protected tightly.

* Coastal Security and Istanbul Police Headquarters will be in cooperation.

Awacs and Helicopters To Take Part

 For air security, Awacs will serve as well as helicopters. The Air Forces Commandership will be on alert against the planes which shift their routes and not inform their identities.
