Erdogan: EU Would Consider Turkey's Performance

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan inaugurated the meeting of Forum Istanbul yesterday and said that he believed that the European Union (EU) would give a negotiation date considering Turkey’s performance. However, he said that it was Turkey, that was responsible for not receiving a date for many years.

Erdogan said that the common ideal of the society was to bring Turkey to a strong and developed level. Stressing the importance of creating an information society, Erdogan said that the most important component of economy was man.

“We are turning our potential to the economic power, gradually”, Erdogan said. Referring to the young population of Turkey, he said that one of the essential worries of the EU was its population which was getting older.

On the issue of receiving a negotiation date from EU, Erdogan said that the former governments did not fulfill their responsibilities and “Turkey will take her place in EU with its brain power from the moment it joined EU.”
