Denktas: Preparation is necessary for negotiations
Turkish Cypriot President Rauf Denktas said that the invitation made by U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan to begin negotiations on February 10 in New York, necessitated preparations. Speaking with a group of journalists in Sheraton Hotel in Ankara, Denktas said "If this is an invitation to talk, it is technically possible. But if they want us to begin negotiations on February 10, then, preparation is necessary." |

Following the intensified efforts of Turkey to solve the Cyprus issue, it was revealed that UN Secretary General Kofi Annan would send letters to Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis, Turkish Cypriot President Rauf Denktas, and Greek Cypriot Leader Tasos Papadopulos until the end of this week to inform them about the road map to be followed and about conditions. |
