Papadopulos: We Are Ready For Talks Without Preconditions
Greek Cypriot Leader Tasos Papadopulos said that they were ready to commence negotiations on the Cyprus issue without any preconditions if UN Secretary General Kofi Annan invited. Papadopulos said that they hoped that a united Cyprus became a member of EU on May 1 and that the Turkish side would show the same political willingness.

Erdogan To Armenians: Let Us Forget About Past

Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan called on Armenians to give up genocide claims against Turks. He said, “We want to remove such issues as genocide from our history books,” and gave the message that the same approach was expected from Armenians.

Kurdistan Democrat Party (KDP) official Nechirvan Barzani told Associated Press news agency; If Turkish troops do not leave Northern Iraq, we will remove them. Turkish diplomatic and military sources immediately replied: If Kurdish groups use force against Turkish troops, Turkey will retaliate through military ways. 
Support To Turkey From Prison

Former DEP deputy Leyla Zana, who is being re-tried on grounds of assisting PKK, sent a letter to European Parliament Speaker Pat Cox saying that EU should give a date to Turkey to commence accession talks. Zana argued that if EU gave a date this would break the resistance of anti-EU circles in Turkey and that, “Otherwise, both Turkey and the region can be dragged into a chaos.”  
BDDK: Uzans Caused Crisis In Star Media Group
The employees of Star Media Group of the Uzan Group cannot receive their salaries for a while. The Banking Regulating Board (BDDK) announced that the party, which was responsible for that situation, was the Uzan Family itself. 
190 Turban Cases In ECHR
According to the “balance sheet” of the European Court for Human Rights (ECHR), Turkey was found guilty in 76 cases in 2003. 56 out of these 76 cases were brought on grounds of “lack of fair trial.” There are 190 appeals about turban to ECHR against Turkey at the moment and one of them belongs to Hayrunisa Gul, the wife of Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul.  
Cheney: EU Membership Of Turkey Will Benefit Everyone
U.S. Deputy President Dick Cheney said that Turkey deserved support in her bid for EU. Cheney said; We think that Turkey’s being a part of Europe will benefit everyone in the long run. Cheney said that Turkey was an important ally for both U.S. and European countries in NATO.
