Denktas Insists on three Ministers

Serdar Denktas, the leader of junior coalition partner Democrat Party said that they will apply to the Constitutional Court for their three ministers and will not replace them until a decision is taken. President Denktas said that such a provision would effect the rights of many people in the future. 
Shocking Bribery in Judiciary

State Security Court (DGM) Prosecutor Omer Suha Aldan, who is in charge with the investigation into the “bribery to judiciary” case, told Hurriyet, “My goal is to single out rotten apples in the judiciary. You will be shocked if I tell you the amount of bribery in question. We have heard such things from time to time.  
Prodi: Turkey Is Closer To Membership

In the historical visit of EU Commission President Romano Prodi, who is the first Commission President visiting Turkey since the signature of the Ankara treaty in 1963, Brussels and Ankara mutually gave warm messages. Addressing the Parliament General Assembly, Prodi said; I can assure you that there will be no further new conditions (for membership to EU).  
Omer Dincer Controversy

Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin said that when they appointed Omer Dincer as the Prime Ministry Undersecretary, they were unaware of his speech that he delivered in 1995. Sahin said, “It is our duty to dismiss a bureaucrat that acts in violation to the premises of the Republic.” 
Government Gave Salih A Cold Shoulder
The government is giving the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), which insists that a federal structure based on ethnicity should prevail in Iraq, a cold shoulder. Neither Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan nor Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul would receive Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Official Berham Salih, who arrived in Ankara yesterday evening and will start his contacts in the Foreign Ministry today. 
Fischer: Turkey Is More Important Than Rocket Defense Systems
German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer said that if EU doors were closed to Turkey, the results of that would be grave. Fischer told Stern magazine; If I am to say it in a rather exaggerated way, tying Turkey to Europe closely is more important than a missile-defense system.
